October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness about the most common cancer among women globally. In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. It touches nearly everyone, either personally or through loved ones. Each year, over 300,000 American women receive a breast cancer diagnosis. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women, following lung cancer. In 2023, an estimated 43,170 women and 530 men are projected to succumb to this disease.
